Although harness racing trainer Amanda Telfer and driver Tim Williams know Addington winner Arden CC (Captaintreacherous) has plenty of horsepower, they admit the ringcraft is still not there.
“The steering has been the real issue. The day we get on top of that you’ll see the real him. He gives you a good feel. He does have a good motor but he’s still a baby and got a wee bit to learn. He’s got to fill out into his frame but he’s definitely got the motor,” Williams told Nigel Armstrong from Harness Racing Unhinged.
The two year old which Amanda trains with her brother Steve, got in the deciding stride tonight to win the Avon City Ford Mobile Pace.
From a wide draw Williams asked CC Arden to progress and he took up the role of pacemaker early from I’ll Be Back (Bettor’s Delight). Despite running out from the running line, CC Arden held on to win by a neck from southerner I’ll Be Back. There were a further six lengths back to Showtym Girl (Sweet Lou).

Sent out favourite on debut a fortnight ago, CC Arden looked to be in for at least a place but he galloped when challenging.
“We’re still having trouble with him running out at the moment and we thought we’d put on the murphy and the rein pole. He still got out a bit coming up the straight tonight. Hopefully he’ll get better and stronger,” Amanda said.

CC Arden is out of the seven win Panspacificflight mare Arden’s Choice whose best win was in the Group One Caduceus Club Two Year Old Fillies Classic in Auckland. CC Arden is the mare’s second foal and was bought as the yearling by Steve Stockman of Stonewall Stud for $140,000.
