Like Mother Like Son: South Coast Arden wins the Winter Cup to replicate his dam's 2012 victory

On 18 May 2012 Southwind Arden (Bettor's Delight/ Winter Rose) won the Trevinos Restaurant and Bar Winter Cup at the NZ Metropolitan Meeting at Addington Raceway. On 21 May 2021 her son South Coast Arden by Somebeachsomewhere, replicated her win by winning the Elmwood Trading Company Winter Cup at the same meeting.

The late Noreen Stiven bred the mare and raced her for nine wins, 13 seconds and 12 thirds. Included in her wins were the Cheviot Cup, the Caduceus Club Mile High Mares Final and the Canterbury Standardbred Breeders Stakes. She was trained by Mark Purdon and Grant Payne and Mark drove her for the majority of her wins, including the Winter Cup, but Natalie Rasmussen, who drove South Coast Arden in his two most recent victories also drove his mother. Southwind Arden won over $150k in stakes.
