The month of November 2021

Racing in the Arden Lodge colours for John and Judy Stiven and Gore trotting enthusiast Jeff Rankin a win by 3 year old Arden's Delight (Bettor's Delight/ Rocknroll Arden) at the Kaikoura Trotting Club meeting at Addington got the month off to a great start. Trained by Grant Payne and driven by Tim Williams the filly had a very nice run and finished strongly ahead of the next runners home Classy Dancer and Allegra. Arden's Delight's half brother Arden Roanoke won in Hobart the previous night.

Arden bred South Coast Arden (Somebeachsomewhere/ Southwind Arden) ran second to Classy Brigade in the Group 2 Alabar Kaikoura Cup. Trainer Brent Mangos was unable to be in Christchurch but South Coast Arden was looked after and driven by Natalie Rasmussen.

On the same day Countess of Arden was retired to stud and delivered to Macca Lodge. Winner of the 2019/20 Otago Harness Racing Awards 4 YO Pacing Mare of the Year the Net 10 Eom 5 year old has since been served with Capt Midnight.


On the eve of the IRT NZ Cup Meeting the Stivens were awarded the Macca Lodge Southland Broodmare of the Year trophy for their mare Southwind Arden (Bettor's Delight/Winter Rose). A NZ Standardbred Breeders Association trophy was presented for South Coast Arden's win in the Group 1 4 Year Old Emerald at the Jewels. Arden Messi (Bettor's Delight/Tosca Hanover) earned a pin for winning in under the 1.58 mile rate.


On November 9th Arden Lodge bred South Coast Arden (Somebeachsomewhere/ Southwind Arden) ran third in the Group 1 IRT New Zealand Trotting Cup behind Copy That and Self Assured. Laver (Art Major/ Venus Serena) finished sixth.

On 10th November the Stivens' Christian Cullen mare L'oiseau de nuit foaled a Vincent colt at Macca Lodge.


At the Show Day meeting on the12th Arden-bred South Coast Arden ran a phenomenal race to win the Group 1 Spring Back with Mediaworks NZ Pacing Free For All in a NZ record time for the 1980m in a time of 2.17 and a mile rate of 1.51.3 for trainer Brent Mangos and driver Natalie Rasmussen.

On the 15th November 2 YO Darlin's Arden (Somebeachsomewhere/ Arden's Darlin) returned to trainer Grant Payne. She had been recovering from an injury at Arden Lodge. She is to be raced by the Stivens and Dianne and Jeff Rankin.



On the 20th Ardenart (Artsplace/ Arden's Dream) foaled a Downbytheseaside filly.



Sadly Tuapeka Art's Always B Miki filly that was born on 28th October died on the 24th November while still at Macca Lodge.



On 27th November Arden-bred Arden's Ace (Art Major/Venus Serena) won the Slingsbury Holdings Carousel Heat 2 at Menangle. Arden's Ace is trained by Tony Bertwistle and was driven by Darren Binskin for owner Alison Bertwistle.



At the same meeting Arden-bred Arden Messi (Bettor's Delight/Tosca Hanover) ran a very good fourth in TAB InterDominion Pacing Championship First Round Qualifying Heat.


NZB Standardbred has released their 2022 Yearling Sales Catalogue. Arden Lodge has 7 colts and 2 fillies being offered in the February sale.

The young ones are developing nicely.
